WARTBURG COLLEGE MARKETING & COMMUNICATION OFFICE
A familiar face will return to the Wartburg College Sports Information Office in June when KatieJo Svenson once again assumes the title of sports information director.
Svenson, who was KatieJo Kuhens when she first served in this role from 2011 to 2019, left the college for a similar position at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minn.
“We are thrilled to have KatieJo rejoining us as the director of our sports information program. She not only brings a wealth of experience in her profession, but a great deal of loyalty to and a genuine passion for Wartburg athletics,” said John Cochrane, Wartburg’s athletic director. “The responsibilities and expectations in this area have evolved considerably in recent years, and we are confident that KatieJo is the right person to lead us in the expansion of our visibility and outreach to prospective student-athletes and Knights all over the country.”
A 2007 Wartburg graduate, Svenson covered 10 NCAA championships, a multitude of All-Americans and conference champions, and 26 CoSIDA Academic All-American honors for the Knights. She is a co-creator of Wartburg’s premier livestreaming service, Knight Vision, and served as the executive producer of Knight Vision Sports from its inception in fall 2013 through her departure in 2019.
“Wartburg is a perennial top 25 athletic department and looked to as a leader in both the region and nation in all aspects,” Svenson said. “I take immense pride in the work I did during the first eight years of my tenure and look forward to building on that foundation. I am thankful to Athletic Director John Cochrane, Associate Athletic Director Ryan Callahan, Vice President for Student Recruitment Rick Willis and the search committee for their time involved in this process.”
In April 2013, Svenson earned the CoSIDA College Division Rising Star Award and was one of 10 American Volleyball Coaches Association Grant Burger Media Award regional SID honorees in June 2015. She also was media coordinator for the 2016 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which Wartburg hosted.
Svenson recently completed a three-year term on the CoSIDA Board of Directors, after filling a one-year term in 2017-18 due to a vacancy, and is currently the assistant commissioner/SID for the Midwest Lacrosse Conference/Midwest Women’s Lacrosse Conference.
