STUDENT SENATE RECAP: CAMPUS SPIRITUAL LIFE, CULTURE WEEK 2022

ZACH HINEY, KNIGHT WIRE STUDENT SENATE REPORTER

The Feb. 17 Student Senate meeting was headlined by an appearance from the new interim dean of spiritual life, Pastor Halcyon Bjornstad, who came to speak about her transition back to Wartburg and the future of the position.

Bjornstad is in the position formerly held by Pastor Brian Beckstrom, who left Wartburg at the end of 2021. She will be a part of the process as Wartburg finds a new dean for spiritual life.

Bjornstad worked at Wartburg during the 2018-19 academic year, assisting with Wartburg’s accelerated ministry program. She then went to Montana serve as the pastor of New Life Lutheran Church in Helena.

Bjornstad emphasized that she wants students to know that spiritual life on Wartburg’s campus is for students of all religions and faith expressions. Her office is located in the tower of the Wartburg Chapel.

President Connor Moore wanted to remind students that the applications for residential assistants and orientation leaders are still open. Applications close on Friday, Feb. 25.

The last speaker of the meeting was the new president of International Club, Victor Cano-Ramirez. He said that he’s excited to be leading one of the biggest groups on campus, and he said was that I-Club is not just for international students, but for all students and encouraged all students to get involved.

He also shared that Cultural Week will be happening this semester, and will be announcing the dates at a later time.

If students have any questions regarding I-Club or Culture Week, Cano-Ramirez can be reached at victor.canoramirez@wartburg.edu.
