The Diversity Dialogues podcast enables students to learn more about social justice issues that concern students at Wartburg College and the outside world. The podcast is produced on a monthly basis by third-year social work and political science major Victoria Rose Dietz.

Dietz is a social work initiative fellow. The Social Work Initiative Fellowship was created this academic year to foster change and promote social justice on campus among the social work students.

“The Social Work Initiative fellow is created ultimately to create a cohesive dialogue surrounding equity inclusion and diversity on campus”, Dietz said.

Alongside Diversity Dialogues, the fellowship helped Dietz create the Student Social Justice Council to voice and support the minority students on campus.

The first episode of the podcast is about racial justice featuring fourth-year computer information systems major Anthony Onyia and Neuroscience and Spanish major Joseline Robles Rosales. It was released on Sept. 23rd.

“I really love podcasts in general, I listen to them in the car, in the shower it is just something that relaxes me, Dietz said. “I was really interested in making one about something else I was really passionate about, which is social justice.”

Dietz wants to create conversations with her guests and her listeners. Moreover, Dietz aims to make people look at things from new and different perspectives

“Especially in rural Iowa, when you talk about racial justice or inclusion it is a very different topic than if you talk about it in an urban area,” Dietz said. “I hope it helps students take a look at things in a new light.”

The next episode of the podcast will feature Wartburg Democrats members third-year Riordan Lujano and Addyson Kaune on racial bias and politics.

Diversity Dialogues is available on Spotify, Apple Music and Anchor. For more information contact Victoria Dietz at Victoria.dietz@wartburg.edu.
