Fall sports are in full swing at Wartburg College with all teams playing at least one game.
Volleyball is off to its best start in school history with a record of 17-0. The Wartburg Invitational occurred Sept. 24-26 and Wartburg finished the invite with four wins. They are currently ranked 10th in the nation, according to the American Volleyball Coaches Association polls.
Fifth-year seniors Katie Foster and Kylie Bildstein are big contributors.
Foster leads the team in digs with 302, extending her school record. Bildstein is first on the team with 159 kills and also tied for first in blocks with 33.
The next time volleyball will be in action will be Sept. 29 against Luther College in Levick Arena.
KNIGHTS 2-1 IN FOOTBALL
The football team posted a 2-1 record in the season so far. The Knights opened conference play Sept. 25 with a 28-7 win against Coe College.
Senior quarterback Jace Moore amassed 601 passing yards with a 62 percent completion rate. He also has three touchdowns and is averaging 200 passing yards per game. Hunter Clasen captains the backfield and has 126 yards through the two games he has played.
Eli Barrett and Antonio Santillian made 20 tackles a piece. Nate Link and Colin Schraeder are currently tied with one interception each.
Their next game will be Oct. 2 against Central College in Pella, Iowa.
WOMEN’S SOCCER 13TH IN NATION; MEN GO 2-3-1
The women’s soccer team has a record of 7-1-1. They are currently ranked 13th in the national polls. The lone loss came in a 1-0 game against the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse with a score of 1-0.
Joy Smith is on top of the pack with seven goals and 14 points total. Marissa Lopez is the goalkeeper only allowing four goals in the nine games played.
The next game will be Oct. 2 against Coe College at Salzwedel Field in Waverly.
On the men’s side, they have a record of 2-3-1. Jack Palen is leading the charge with two goals and 4 total goals. They open conference play against the University of Dubuque as well on Sept. 25.
ELLES TOPS MEN’S TENNIS
Men’s tennis is also in action with a record of 1-2. The next event for them is the American Rivers Conference tournament Sept. 24 hosted by Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Jackson Elles is currently leading the single department with a record of 2-0. The tandem of Hunter Gerhardt and Cade Davis have an undefeated record of 2-0 in doubles play.
CLAY TARGET TEAM IN SECOND SEASON
In their second full season, the clay target sports team has placed first, second and first in their three meets. The CTS team will travel to Simpson College to compete next on Sept. 25.
CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS ON NATIONAL HUNT
The men’s and women’s cross country teams are both looking to compete on the national stage this year. The men’s team is ranked first in the nation, according to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCA). The women are ranked second in the nation in the same polls.
They are both in action Oct 2 at the Dan Huston Invite hosted by Wartburg.
MEN’S GOLF ENDS OCT. 1
Fall is the men’s golf non-conference season. They just participated in the Wartburg Fall Invite where they placed fifth out of seven teams. The team score was 618 over the two-day meet. The final meet of their fall season is Oct. 1 at the Hawkeye Fall Classic in Dike, Iowa.
