UPDATE: In a campus-wide email sent by Dean Daniel Kittle on Tuesday, Aug. 24, the Pfizer vaccine will be offered at the on-campus vaccination clinic, which will be held Friday, Sept. 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Wartburg College will require masks inside all campus buildings on Aug. 23 as coronavirus cases of the delta variant continue to rise.
Masks are not required to be worn in students’ own residence hall rooms, residence hall hallways and restrooms, designated eating areas while eating, an individual’s workspace, specified athletic activities and public exercise and swimming areas of the Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center, according to the Wartburg Knights Care COVID-19 Update out Aug. 20.
In his campus-wide email sent out Friday, Aug. 20 at 9:03 a.m., college President Dr. Darrel Colson wrote, “I intend for this mandate to be a brief one; as we gather from across the country, and indeed the globe, to begin our 2021-22 academic year, I intend to prevent any potential spikes. By September 17, I will ask the Campus Health Recovery Team to evaluate this policy, using the information available at the time, including vaccination rates, positive test rates, and the guidance of local officials and the CDC, and then to advise me on whether to extend the mask mandate or to lift it.”
Colson also encouraged students who were not yet vaccinated to do so as soon as they could. He also wrote that Wartburg College plans to host an on-campus vaccination clinic on Friday, Sept. 3. The information regarding the type of vaccination that will be distributed at the clinic was not specified.
