GABBY MCCOY, TRUMPET STAFF WRITER

Wartburg College is holding a virtual summer camp fair on Wednesday, February 10th from 9am-3pm. Camps from all over the country will be a part of it. This event is open to any Wartburg students.

The school is teaming up with 11 other schools from all over Iowa, including University of Dubuque and University of Iowa.

“Technology has transformed the way we host events,” Derek Solheim, Director of Pathways, said. “Now we are able to team up with all these schools from around Iowa.”

THE VIRTUAL SUMMER CAMP FAIR WILL BE HELD WEDNESDAY, FEB. 10 FROM 9 A.M. – 3 P.M. THIS EVENT IS SPONSORED BY PATHWAYS AND THE WARTBURG CENTER FOR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT.

There are 89 camps that will be at the event. These camps vary from Christian camps to sports camps to health camps.

This gives students the opportunity builds resume and improve interview skills. It also brings awareness to the job market. It also gives students the chance to travel around the country. Some camps are very mission driven which many students are interested in, according to Solheim.

Students can sign up in Handshake, a website for viewing and applying for Wartburg College’s student employment opportunities, by typing in “virtual summer camp fair.” Students can register up until the Feb. 10, 2021.

In addition to the summer camp fair, the college will also host a virtual career fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 16. The college is teaming up with over 20 employers to speak with students. The college invites companies, graduate schools, and service organizations.

This event is held virtually this year due to COVID-19.  This is an opportunity with no consequences to test communications and interview skills. It also helps a student with resume development. Multiple students have been hired from this event, according to Jo Dorrance, Internship and Wartburg West Coordinator.

“This is a way for students to practice their professional skills in front of real employers,” Dorrance said.

Students will get an email to sign up for one-on-one chats with the employer of their choice in the upcoming weeks. There are also posters around campus with more information. For questions contact Jo.dorrance@wartburg.edu or derek.solheim@wartburg.edu.
