The Wartburg men’s basketball team finished off regular season action with a 92-81 point victory over the University of Dubuque Spartans Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Knights completed the series sweep, as Wartburg won the previous matchup, 95-79.
The two teams went back and forth the first 13 minutes of the game with no team establishing more than a four-point lead. The Knights broke through with back-to-back layups by Tyler Zumbach ’20 and Ryan Stulken ’21 to lead 34-26 with 6:26 to go in the first half. A Davis Roquet ’22 three-pointer with six seconds to go gave Wartburg a 10-point lead, their biggest of the half, going into the break.
Wartburg opened the second half with baskets by Camry Moore ’20 and Jack Molstead ’23 to give Wartburg a 16-point lead. Dubuque responded with an eight-point run, but Wartburg maintained a lead throughout the game and finished with the 11-point victory.
Five Knights scored in double-digits, led by Molstead with 16 and followed by Max Smith Drahos ’21 and Jacob Kuhlemeier ’20 with 15 each, Zumbach with 12 and Moore with 11. Stulken led the team on the boards and snagged seven rebounds. Smith Drahos dished out five assists en route to the victory. The Knights shot 53.1% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc. Wartburg also shot 81.8% from the free throw line.
Wartburg concludes the regular season with an overall record of 11-4 and an American Rivers Conference record of 7-9.
