The Wartburg Cheer and Dance teams took part in the third annual American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Competitive Dance and Cheer Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 16, and the cheer team arrived back in Waverly with two first-place trophies.
Wartburg won the All-Women category with 76.5 points and the Stunt Group category with 121.5 points. Additionally, the dance team placed fourth in the Hip Hop and Jazz categories and fifth in the Pom category.
“I’m thrilled that our cheer team was recognized for their hard work throughout the year,” Tara Winter, Wartburg cheer coach, said.
“Our team moved to campus in late August and has had a rigorous practice schedule ever since. Our priorities have always been supporting our teams on campus, but this competition gives us the opportunity to compete with our conference schools to showcase the talents of each team.”
Nebraska Wesleyan’s dance team placed first in Hip Hop and Jazz and placed second in Pom, which Simpson won. Wesleyan also won the Game Day cheer category, which was new this year. Next year’s invitational will be hosted by Loras College.
