The No. 9 Wartburg Women’s Basketball team secured the series sweep over Luther College Wednesday evening.

Wartburg defeated the Norse 79-59 and improved to 10-2 during American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) action. The Knights jumped out to a 13-point lead after one quarter and held onto the lead throughout the contest.

Wartburg shot nearly 50% from the field while limiting Luther to 34.4% shooting from the field and 20% from long range.

Four Knights scored in double figures, led by 16-point efforts each by Tori Hazard ’21 and Kaitlyn Volesky ’21, which was a season-high for Hazard and career-best for Volesky. Emma Gerdes ’20 and Ally Conrad ’21 combined for 23 points while Gerdes led with five assists.

Near the midway point of the second quarter, the orange and black extended its advantage into the 20s with a Katie Lindeman ’20 layup, and maintained an 18-point lead heading into the break. Early in the fourth frame, the Norse trimmed the Wartburg lead to nine to force an orange and black timeout.

However, the Knights answered after the break with a three-pointer from Conrad and preserved a 20-point victory. Wartburg, now on a fourgame win streak and 18-3 overall will host Buena Vista University at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12, in Levick Arena for its “Play4Kay” game, benefiting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
