The No. 10 Wartburg Women’s Basketball team took a 75-55 victory at home over American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) foe Coe College. The Knights improved their record to 16-3 overall and 8-2 in conference.
Starting off the game, the Knights began with a 17-point lead and held the Kohawks to only single numbers in the first quarter. The Kohawks outscored the Knights 19-17 in the second quarter and Wartburg wasahead 41-28 going into the second half.
In the third quarter, Coe brought the Knights’ lead into single digits after connecting a three pointer at the 6:18 minute mark. Tori Hazard ’21 responded with two free throws followed by a layup to put Wartburg ahead by 11.
With under a minute remaining in the third, another layup by Hazard gave the orange and black a 20 point advantage at the end of the quarter.
Going into the final quarter, the Knights and Kohawks scored an even 14-14, but the Knights picked up the win in the end. Wartburg had multiple double-digit scorers. Emma Gerdes ’20 led the team with 17 points on six-of-10 field goals and five-for-seven from three-point range.
Hazard and Ally Conrad ’21 each notched 12 points while Hannah Anderson ’22 contributed 11. Six other Knights scored and 25 points came from the bench.
The Knights shot above 50% on field goals, three pointers and from the free throw line. Next up, Wartburg will travel to Decorah, Iowa to face A-R-C rival Luther College.
Tipoff is set to start at 5:30 p.m.
