Fifteen members of the top ranked Wartburg Wrestling team placed in the top eight at the Buena Vista Open on Saturday, Dec. 7. Wartburg had 37 wrestlers compete with 30 total teams in attendance.
No. 5 Kobe Woods ’21 was the highest placing Knight and finished third in the 197-pound weight class. Joe Pins ’23 was the second-highest finisher for Wartburg and placed fourth at 133 pounds. Owen McClave ’21 placed sixth at 133 pounds as well. In the 141-pound class, Zayren Terukina ’22 and Miguel Mendoza ’23 placed seventh and eight, respectively. Jared Ellingwood ’21 and Brady Fritz ’22 took seventh and eighth at 149 pounds.
At 157 pounds, Shea Hartzler ’20 and Martine Sandoval ’20 finished in sixth and eighth place. Max Forsyth ’20 finished fifth at 157 pounds and Jacob Hermann ’23 placed sixth. Paul Calo ’23 was the highestplacing D-III wrestler in the 174-pound weight class and took eighth place.
Isaiah Cox ’20 placed sixth at 184 pounds and Trevor Walton ’21 and Bronson Harmon ’23 tied for eighth. Wartburg will wrestle Cornell College at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
