Both the Wartburg Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams took part in the Saga Cup, hosted by Luther College, on Friday, Nov. 8. The No. 7 men won the meet with a near-perfect score of 16 points. The No. 13 women finished second with 31 points. The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire won the meet with 27 points.

The men placed four runners inside the top five. Drew Hoffman ’21 finished in first place with a time of 26 minutes and 41.6 seconds. He was followed by Collin Day ’21, Alec Ille ’22 and Jay Mixdorf ’21.
Additionally, Conor Sapp ’20 and Sam Lorimer ’21 took sixth and seventh, respectively.

Wartburg turned in an average time of 27:00 with 11 runners inside the top 20 Anna Hertz ’22 led the women and was the first of three Knights to place in the top five. Hertz crossed the finish line at 24:12.4. Natalie Paulson ’23 was just a second behind to take third place, while Kylie Kelchen ’20 took fifth at 24:17.5.

The women turned in an average time of 24:27 with seven runners inside the top 20. Both teams will take to the course at the NCAA Central Region Championships on Saturday, Nov. 16 in Waverly. The men won the region last year for the second time in school history. The women placed third and received an at-large bid to the NCAA national meet.
